Ken Feather at Ogallala NE!

Met Dispatcher Wehmeier at the Sheriff's Office where I gave a report of my heat stroke incident.

I am being driven to either Ogallala NE or Big Springs NE tomorrow at 1pm!!

Ken Feather the park/campground manager at Recharge Lake in York NE called me and confirmed he is driving to Sidney NE tomorrow and wanted to know if I still wanted to come along.

Told him definitely yes. Although I do feel guilty about not walking the rest of the way through NE. But I really need to get to Denver before the first snow which can be in late Sept.

I have work waiting for me!

Plus, I will get to visit with Ken a very kind and interesting person. My big focus is getting into relationship with people all across this great country of ours.

First, I will walk into the Aurora News Register tomorrow morning to see if they will do a story on my trip in and through Aurora.

Will meet one last time with my good friend. Officer Scott Ganow.

I will still have over 200 some miles to walk to Denver through some of the most desolate treeless grassy plains you will ever see. And, I know. I drove through this area so many times after I moved to Denver in 2003. I lived there some 8 years. Denver is hands down my all time favorite city and place to live. Its got a kinda magic I cannot explain.

Have some very good friends there I have not seen in years too. Cannot wait!

Pics are of Dan and Juli who lost their jobs and home and a pic of their new home...a camper. Other pics are of Ricki and Mary who just left tonight for New Mexico and their dog, "Galaxy". That's my tent. My home. Haha. I love my life. Its so simple and focused now. But it can be lonely too. And, I have always hated saying goodbye and that's all I have been doing on this trip...although I have likewise been saying hello too. You take the bad with the good.

 

Day 98- Officer Ganow bought me lunch today

Officer Scott Ganow continued his concern for me when he drove by my camp today at Streeter Park in Aurora, Nebraska to do a welfare check to see if I recovered from yesterday. He then took me to Pizza Hut and bought lunch. Knowing I don't have a vehicle Mr. Ganow then drove me to the hardware store so that I could replace some of my tent stakes. Told him about the tweakers. He is very familiar them.

Tomorrow I will head down to the local media to see if they would be interested in covering my trip.

Finished up my weekly column for August 13 which will be about my experience in Aurora.

Did laundry also. Next, I will interview Mary and Ricki two homeless women who travel all across the nation in their van. The article will center around what they do while traveling around the nation and why. Should be very interesting. Apparently, Mary has terminal pancreatic cancer and whats to see the country before she dies.

Met Mary and Ricki at Streeter Park Campground

Met Dan and Juli who are camping next to me.

Juli and Dan have been married for 25 years and both of them just recently lost their jobs and their home. Now they basically live here at the campground in Aurora NE with only a part time job helping a lady with here in town with her yard work.

They explained how difficult it is to land another job without a permanent residence. And they cant get a permanent residence without a full time job but they cant get the job without the residence. They are trapped in that vicious cycle with little or no hope. They are despairing. And, of course I'm helpless because I cannot help them other than with prayer.
