Day 61- Attending Church at IHOPKC

Attending services at IHOPKC. Allen Hood President of IHOP University preached a very convicting sermon based on Joel 1 about national revival and repentance. I encourage everyone to read and study Joel 1 and then look at our own nation and see where the USA is in relation to God's end of age judgments.

Day 61- World War I started 100 years ago today

100 years ago six assassins waited in ambush along the well publicized motorcade route in Sarejevo in the Balkans. Their target was Archduke Francis Ferdinand heir to the Austria-Hungary Empire. Though the assassins bungled their first attempt that day through a series of unfortunate events one of the six shot the Archduke killing him and his wife, Sofia. The killings set off a worldwide conflagration because of a string of entangling alliances.

Four years later 10 million people across Europe lay dead. The other 5 assassins later said they would never have taken part in the assassination had they know what the outcome would be.

We would do well to learn from this colossal miscalculation.

Day 61- Working on my weekly column article

Writing my weekly column article. Will be back in the Prayer Room at IHOPKC in the next couple of hours. Then will attend Saturday night church service.

Planning on leaving Kansas City July 5 to begin the Kansas leg of my trip. Don't want to be walking during the July 4th holiday. Looks like the heat index will be in the 90s for the foreseeable future. Ugh!

Just going to have to make peace with the prospect of camping in the woods and fields if the heat keeps me from pressing on into the next town. Towns in Kansas will now be 20-30 miles apart and that's tough to do that kinda of mileage in that kinda heat. Hate camping in the woods. Going to have to man up is all.

Day 60- 2 months coming to a close

I'm at worship services at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City. Mike Bickel the founder is to preach tonight.

I was in the Global Prayer Room most of the day. I met with staff members who gave me an amazing prophetic word today. He said I was on a journey where connectedness is important. Told me I am taking wing like an eagle looking over the nation to get the big picture. Another staffer told me I make people around me happy. Uhm...never been accused of that!! Haha! She told me I will be leading men in my journey. Curious.

All in all productive day. Josh is busy working 50 hrs or more a week.

Day 60- Blisters

Blisters

Walking down the hot road,
Crunch, crunch, crunch,
My feet, tired, sweaty, burning,
Uhm, blisters perhaps, just a hunch.

Little volcanoes erupting on my feet,
Rubbing toe to toe against the road,
Blazing hot and steamy while,
On aching shoulders a massive load.

A drowsy little village afar off,
With miles yet to go,
And prairie meadows to cross,
Creeks winding south as they flow.

Casting aside my ponderous load,
I yell...off with my shoes!
Pour water on my red-hot wounds,
My achy feet scream from overuse!

Oh, how I praise my roll of duct tape,
When I wrap these ugly white-hot,
Feet until they stop screaming,
Their accusations come to nought!

Atlas was much abused,
Forced to carry the world but with,
My backpack he wouldnt be amused

Orion in persistent pursuit
Of the Pleiades across the night sky
Impressive, yet I don't give a hoot

But my chasing towns on Ole Rt 24
With speeding cars whizzing by
May someday be the stuff of lore

Little by little
Casting off my belongings
I will day by passing day whittle

The hated weight I now bear
Until it's time to sleep
No more frightening fate to dare!

Day 58- Poem for the day

Magnify the Majesty of the King
                     Of Kings!

O' Lord your Majesty spreads over and beyond the Milky Way,

As your unseen hand once long ago in an undiscovered age waved a brush painting a frightening fresco over a forever expanding cosmos.

You awaken the dawn with your fiery sun and draw to a close the day with the rising of a sterling-silvery moon.

My eyes look up at your singular masterpiece, a boundless bright sea of shimmering, shattering suns in the night sky,

And, I feel the tug of my wounded heart knowing you O' Lord sketched this magnificent living panorama just for me!

Magnify the Lord and know He is the King of Kings,

And of His Reign there is no end!

Day 58- At McDonalds in KC working on the next article for my weekly column

Penning my next article for the Morton Times. Not easy coming up with a different topic each week.

Day 58- In the Prayer Room at the International House of Prayer

Praying and reading the Bible in the Prayer Room where global prayers are said and have been said with worship music 24/7 since 1999.

Jesus is the Light of the world. We are the light of the world as a city sitting on a hill as a beacon for the wayward.

In the Restoration of all things there will be no more need of the sun as God Himself will be the Light!

Day 58- Special thanks to the Mahnkens

I am now in Kansas City at my son's home. Finally. Josh and I went out to eat and then he had to work at the House of Prayer. I stayed in the Global Prayer Room until he got off work.

Anyway...I just want to thank Mark and Susie Mahnken for all they did for me...a stranger!

They took me in and cared for me in true hospitality style. We prayed and even worked together. When they found out I was suffering from heat exhaustion they once again offered me their home. Then they traveled an hour one way to pick me up.

Whenever I needed something they bought it for me. They treated me as an honored guest and a brother in Christ.

Then Mark drove me to where I needed to be dropped off at and handed me money for the trip.

I was getting real low on funds so Marks benevolence really helped out!

And he and Susie told me if I ever need help they will come and get me! They are now family to me.

Mark and I have really great conversations which I am going to miss.

So long Mark and Susie. Again congrats on your new grandson! Congrats to son Blake and his wife!

Day 57- In Kansas City!

I walked approx 10 miles day. Josh picked me up in Wellington. He lives in KC. Took me to the International House of Prayer where I am at currently. They have a prayer room with worship music and prayer 24/7. Its refreshing!

The scripture reading is Psalm 103.

Psalm 103:15,16:

The life of mortals is like grass
They flourish like a flower of
The field. The wind blows over it
And it is gone,
And its place remembers it no more.

Looking at theses photos illustrates the use of grass and flowers as a metaphor depicting our short lives. The brevity and the miracle that is life. How can we being only mortal be proud? We are but a vapor which is here one moment and then vanishes the next moment.

The grass that is here in the morning and mowed down by the afternoon. God gave us this one life. What shall we do with it??? That is the question!

Day 57- Taking a break in Wellington MO.

Day 57- Arrived in Wellington MO population 801.

Just dropped into Wellington a very small town. There is no grocery store no cafe no gas station. My question is this: Why is there a town here? And who would live in a town with no commercial activity? Might as well live in the country. Know what I mean?

The old Santa Fe Trail went through here. That's a nice piece of historical fact.

Oh well. Josh my 29 year old son is picking me up this afternoon. Will stay with him for a few days. Then onto Kansas. I really need a new state to walk in.

Day 57- Taking a break

I'm between Lexington MO and Buckner MO on Rt 24 where else?

Taking a break under a cottonwood.

Day 57- On the road leaving Lexington.

Headed west on Rt 24 out of Lexington towards Wellington and Napolean. May go all the way to Buckner.

Hard saying goodbye to Mark and Susie! Mark and I had a last conversation this morning at 4am as I got ready to go.

Mark is very supportive. Wants me to know he's got my back if I need help. I certainly appreciate it.

Taking a break between Lexington and Wellington.

End of Day 56- Beautiful Sunset

Day 56- Storm damage

Day 56- Missed my deadline for my weekly Morton Times column!

I inadvertently missed the deadline to get my June 25th article in at the Morton Times! But, luckily, Adam Larck the news editor was gracious enough to allow me to email it this morning. So it will be in for the June 25th edition. Adam is so cool about it!

Day 56- Planning. Hitting the road- yes Ole Rt 24 tomorrow!

Spent the morning mapping my route all the way through Kansas and into Colorado. Not sure of the CO portion of my walk. Will defer that decision to another day.

Will need to call churches in Wellington and Buckner MO for overnight accommodations. Advised my son Josh of my tentative ETA of Thursday June 26th.

Need to reconfigure backpack and do laundry. Storms last night did minor damage but destroyed the trampoline.

No losses to the herd.

Cool but humid currently.

Stayed up and talked with Mark till 130am! Great conversation! Will continue today as well.

The Mahnken Clan

Day 55- Movie night with the Mahnkens

Watching "Nebraska" my type of movie. Director also directed "About Schmidt" another favorite of mine. Both films are dark comedy-drama which fit my bleak personality!

The pic is of the Mahnken boys Miles, Blake, Harrison and Grant with Mark on the far right. Kinda reminds me of Bonanza the TV series.

Day 55- Storms all around us Salisbury

Beautiful summer storms. Let it be.
