2014 Trek Across America-Day 74

Chicory in full bloom. Mulberry trees in the background. Chicory was used by the pioneers/settlers in the mid nineteenth century as a coffee substitute. Coffee was hard to come by and very expensive. I had a cup of chicory this morning. Its got a good bitter coffee like taste. The New Orleans coffee you get has chicory blended in.

I will be picking the mulberries soon. They are great with whip cream and or ice cream.

Getting familiar with the cattle again
