Lexington MO

Arrived in Lexington. Made arrangements to camp on the acreage directly behind the First Baptist Church thanks to Assoc Pastor Jim. The secretary warned me about a mountain lion seen roaming this back area. Nice. The Pastor said he saw a bear a few miles away too. Wow. It may be a long night for me.

Strolled downtown. Beautiful old Civil War era buildings. A battle was fought here in 1861 the Battle of Lexington. The courthouse is the oldest courthouse still in use west of the Mississippi. Its Corinthian columns are about 40 feet tall. Sold brick structure.

I met with Pat Worth who owns the River Readers Book Store and Coffee Shop. Pat is originally from Kansas City and moved here 10 years ago and founded her book store. Its one of less than 30 new bookstores in the state of Missouri. Her building is beautiful.

Told Pat I am planning on hiking to Baltimore Bend Conservation area 16 miles east of here. She told me that there are no rangers there that it is fairly desolate. She advised I should knock on the door of one of the many orchard farms along the way to see if I can bivouac there. May try that.

Autumn Wendler is Pat's associate. I took photos of Pat and Autumn and the interior of their store.

Pat offered me free coffee and a free map of Missouri. Thanks Pat!
