Leaving KC Tuesday and walking east. Will meet up with Mark Mahnken in Lexington or Wellington on Friday. He needs my help on the ranch so I agreed to work for him for 12 days basically the 12th through the 24th. Then he will drive me to Omaha NE where I will begin my new more northerly route to Denver.
The NE route is better for several reasons. The first is there are more towns on this route so water will be more plentiful than Kansas. Plus its 60 miles closer to Denver than KC. And I know this route better as I have traveled it by car numerous times.
So on Tuesday Josh will drive me to Buckner. Then I will begin walking east towards Wellington and Lexington. Mark has business in Warrensburg on Friday so he will be driving down Rt 24 and meet up with me on the road. By Friday I should be in Lexington.
Anyway it will be goodbye to Rt 24 after Friday. I may stay at a friends home in Omaha for a day or two. Then will walk on a road that parallels I-80 until I hit I-76 for Denver. There is a road which parallels I-76 too.
Hopefully get to Denver by end of August.
Good luck, Bruce, with your trek across Nebraska! If you get a chance visit the Holy Family Shrine/Chapel about 30 minutes outside Omaha (by car) on I-80; exit 432. It is worth the visit, and they have an amazing story of how and why it was constructed. If you need assistance, please let us know. For example, do you need some Wal*Mart gift cards, etc.? Please let us know. The Bickhaus Family.
ReplyDeleteHello Mike and the Bickhaus family from Quincy IL!! I will definitely check out the Holy Family Shrine/Chapel outside Omaha. I will take photos and put it on my blog and FB.
DeleteI could use assistance Mike. A Walmart gift card would be great or a money gram from Walmart either one. I use the bulk of the contributions I get for food ,water, clothing items and the occasional motel room. Also have been giving some to unfortunate people I run across in my travels. Usually buy them lunch or dinner.
Any amount is greatly welcomed!!
Thanks Mike. Again, I'm happy your trip out west was enjoyable and y'all are back home safe and sound.
Blessings to you your wife and six children!!
Bruce: Let me know how to get the cards to you. Have people been mailing them to post offices along your route, etc?
ReplyDeleteMike: you could mail them to 31369 Highway 129 Salisbury, MO 65281-2344 in care of Mark Mahnken. I will be here 2 weeks. But in the future you could mail them to the post offices along the way. That's the way others are doing it. Let me know if those two ways work for you.
DeleteI will try and mail something to Mark's house this week. Feel free to call me on my phone (assuming you still have my card) and I can call your phone to find out where you are at. Have a good one!
ReplyDeleteMike: thank you very much! I do have your phone number and when I'm back on the road I will call you to let you know where I'm at. Thanks again for your generosity!
