Day-100!!! Camping at Ogallala NE

Met 2 bikers: Kip Byars age 54 and his son Logan Byars age 22 father/son. They have biked all the way from San Francisco. Kip who is a salesman for a biking company is biking to Lincoln NE where he works and lives. However, Logan is going all the way to New York where he will then catch a flight back home to the Bay Area. Logan works at Whole Foods.

The real interesting thing here is that Kip biked this same exact trip back in 1982 and that was before cross country biking became so chic.

So, Logan is following in his pop's footsteps or rather bike tracks!

These 2 guys are unbelievable to be able to get along well enough together to undertake this spectacular journey--father and son! Makes me miss my children so much!

Their bikes with all their equipment weighs about 90 pounds each. And they can cover 90-100 miles per day!

We talked at length last night in the laundry room about their adventures out west. How they get flat tires all the time. The extreme heat in Utah. The desolate areas of Nevada that go on ad infinitum.

We talked about sojourns of others and their motivations...and about ours.

I meet the most fascinating people while hiking this trip!

Ogallala used to be the cowboy/cow town capital of America. Over 5 million cattle and 1 million horses were driven up from south Texas north to Ogallala over the period of 1840-1870. Even today Ogallala is recognized as an important cattle center of the US.

Ogallala was the site of many battles between the Sioux and the US Cavalry and homesteaders. A lot of history here.

I believe I will stay one more day/night here to give myself time to walk into town take in the sights and take some photos.

Also met 2 brothers from Michigan here at the campground who are on their way to Colorado to do some rock climbing. I suggested Eldorado Springs and Boulder. They told me they are on their itenirary already.

Their names are Spencer and Amos. Spencer is 22 and Amos I believe is 18. Nicest guys you will ever meet. Spencer graduated with a degree in History and will be teaching soon. I have a soft spot for kids who love history! Its critically important to know about your nation's past and what your nation is all about. How else can you know where to take your country. That's a problem today and partially why the US is in the fix its in. We as a nation don't know where we have been and what we are about. Amen!

Lets get this country back on track! We can do that if we have more millennials like Spencer, Amos and Logan.

Pics are of Kip and Logan in the laundry room and then all decked out the next day (today) just about to leave Ogallala for the towns of central NE. Other pics show Kip and Logan riding out of Country View Camp Ground. Last pics are of Spencer and Amos and then me.

Sad to see Kip and Logan riding off into the eastern sunrise. I will probably never see this father/son team again. Oh well, as I have said many a time life is about saying hello and goodbye!

So, goodbye for now.
