Downtown Hannibal Mo.
Some photos of downtown Hannibal depicting Tom Sawyer's girlfriends house, Mark Twain's father's office and local store front buildings. Last photo is of Ila May Dimmitt. She owns/operates Show Me Antiques and Gifts. She was born in 1919 in Moberly MO, a year after the conclusion of the Great War. She remembers riding a horse to school and 5 cents bought a loaf of bread!
We talked of the Great Depression and how everybody was poor but you had friends and neighbors who would come to your aid.
Ila May deplores the present state of affairs where you don't even know your next door neighbor or the person across the street.
She also lamented schools and higher education where pupils graduate without a command of the English language!
She has very little hope of restoring freedom and liberty here in America.
