Ma Joad played Henry Fonda's mother in the film Grapes of Wrath. The book was authored by John Steinbeck. The film is about life in the Great Depression especially people from dust bowl areas like Oklahoma who lost their farms/homes and traveled to California to seek a better life. I always loved that film and the actress, Jane Darwell, who portrayed Ma Joad.
